Northern Ireland

Book your place on Politrip 2019 to Northern Ireland today.

Dates

2-week Winter placement

28th December - 11th January 2019

3-week Spring placement

11th April - 3rd May 2019
These dates are flexible +/- up to 2 days; where possible we will encourage groups of Politrippers to travel to their destination together, on these dates and with the rest of their group, but realise this may not always be possible and cheaper flights from different locations may mean volunteers arrive a few days apart. This will not affect airport transfers or accommodation.

We realise many Politrippers may be college students and as such we are open to requests for flexibility around your school's semester dates and exams. Please email us at hello@politrip.org before applying to make sure we can design a trip that suits your schedule.

This does not include flights or living expenses in Ireland. It does cover:

  • Provision of host accommodation or rented accommodation. With host accommodation, volunteers will be housed with local party supporters in the community they volunteer unforeseen. All hosts are vetted by Politrip and you will have the chance to meet them before traveling. You will be staying with at least 1 other volunteer and may be asked to share a room. With rented accommodation, we guarantee a private rented property from Airbnb for you to use. The property may be shared with other volunteers but you will have your own room. Please make your accommodation preference clear when filling out your application form.
  • Airport transfers in Ireland from Dublin or Belfast airports to and from your accommodation
  • A local Politrip Coordinator to guide you throughout your trip, including facilitating the entire trip programme, providing travel advice and ensuring you are supported and looked after
  • All ground transportation related to the trip programme, including a driver, vehicle and fuel costs (does not include transportation during your time off)
  • Provision of phones/tablets and mobile data to facilitate field operations
  • All entry fees and ticket costs for cultural activities
  • Any groups meals and refreshments provided during your trip
  • Group travel Insurance (individual travel insurance is also recommended)
  • 24/7 pre-departure support and advice, including help with any visa applications and cultural awareness training
  • Learning materials including a programme guidebook and trip journal
  • Any visa costs, if applicable (most, if not all applicants, should be eligible to take part in this trip with a tourist visa. If this is not possible for you, Politrip will provide you with the support to process a visa before entry to the UK & Ireland)

This price is highly competitive when compared with many other international volunteering programmes, who often charge upwards of $2500 for as little as two weeks and also do not include flights.

Flights

Whilst flights are not included, we estimate that you will never pay more than $750 for a return flight to Ireland, providing you are travelling from a major city in the US. Generally you will be able to find return flights to Dublin airport for $400-500 if booked well enough in advance, and flights from New York and other parts of the East Coast for as little as $300!

You can also fly into either airport in Belfast, but these flights tend to be more expensive as the airports are smaller. You can also fly into mainland UK airports (such as London, Manchester or Glasgow), or even European destinations, and transfer from there. Politrip strongly encourages participants to make the most of their trip travel to other countries in Europe before or after their placement!

As part of our service to you, we’ll be monitoring airlines and sites such as Skyscanner to find the best possible price, and will advise you when to buy your tickets. If you want to get a rough idea of flight costs currently, try searching for flights between the USA and Ireland around the Politrip dates.
